Private Admissions Coach Vs. High School Counselor

Did you know that the average US high school counselor spends only 38 minutes of personal advising on college admissions with each student? The average ratio is 476 students to every 1 high school college counselor.

Opus College Prep admissions coaches have a small caseload of students and are able to provide more attention and a tailored approach to students. As top experts in the admissions field, we take joy in working with students and spend many hours guiding each student and family that comes through our doors. We wish we could offer every student that kind of support and guidance.
The truth is…that’s the opposite of what most US students experience.

FAQs

Did you know that some universities accept up to 8 students in the early decision round compared to only 1 in the regular decision round? Let us help you figure out an application strategy that makes sense for your child. We help you assess your risk and develop an application plan that allows you to maximize your child’s chances at their dream schools!
The comprehensive nature of counseling and the depth of personalized guidance that we provide to each family we work with is unmatched. We urge parents to consider our admissions counseling programs as an educational and career investment for their children. The modern reality is that four years of private college can exceed $200,000 and four years of public college averages approximately $80,000. It’s worth investing in strategic guidance now to ensure that a student gains acceptance to a college or graduate school program that is the best fit for their academic interests, aptitudes, educational goals, and career track.
Our mission is to assist every student in finding the college or graduate school that best matches their unique needs, where they will be happiest and able to truly thrive. We cater to a diverse array of students and aim to develop strategies that provide them with multiple options. Each year, our students gain acceptance to a broad spectrum of colleges.

The most popular majors today are generally computer-science, economics, biology, engineering, data science, various degrees in engineering, and psychology. Public health and biomedical engineering are also on the rise. We have experience with most majors and have experts on our team that can guide students well. Our head coaches have worked with students with diverse interests.

Our schedules vary in order to meet student needs first. We have a student first philosophy and work hard to make ourselves as accessible as possible. While our official office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (EST), our coaches often arrange evening and weekend appointments with students and families.

With regular meetings, meticulous notes, a calendaring system that highlights important deadlines, and an online platform tailored to college admissions coaching, we are able to ensure that students stay on track with their due dates and make wonderful progress.

We see parents as partners in the admissions coaching process. Head Consultants ensure students make progress and stay focused. They communicate with parents and student—sending meeting notes to parents after each and every meeting, ensuring that any issues that arise are quickly resolved. We understand what an important life moment this is for our students. Selecting a university is a decision that is made not only by the student, but by the entire family as well. We care deeply about this moment and work together with parents to make sure that students realize their dreams.
We work with all kinds of students—the passionate, high-flying student, the average student eager to get started on something new, and the student with no interests at all. What we’ve found is that most students, particularly 9th and 10th graders, don’t always have clear passions or strong interests. We see this all the time! It is our job to help students begin to identify interest areas and turn them into greater ambitions. Eventually, our plans and preparations turn into impactful experiences and tangible achievements and accomplishments. Ultimately, these pathways help students stand out. Our pathway planning and process is tailored and customized for every student, yet our goal for each student remains the same–to explore students’ inspirations and passions without pressure, only support and guidance.
Do we believe that students beat the odds and have better chances for acceptance by working with Opus College Prep admissions consultants? Wholeheartedly, the answer is a resounding yes! We have the track record and results to prove it. Our students are accepted into 1 of their top 3 choice schools at the rate of 96-98%.
No. We will not. This goes against our code of ethics as members of The National Association of College Admissions Counseling and the Independent Educational Consultants Association. Do we guarantee that students will get admitted? Absolutely not. Guaranteeing admission is unethical, as we cannot control what happens behind closed doors in an admissions office. What we can guarantee is that students who engage with their counselors and our admissions coaching curriculum will grow and self-actualize. They will become stronger writers, develop a better understanding of who they are, what they hope to achieve, and how to succeed in the future.

Yes, we are a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) and the Independent Education Consultants Association (IECA). As a member, Opus College Prep is committed to continuing professional and counseling development for our education team. We follow the association’s code of ethics and professional practices and we advocate for equal access to higher education for all students.

The earlier the better! When students come to us early in their educational careers, we help them grow. In our profile-building process, we help students stand out. Together, we explore and develop academic areas, plan meaningful extracurricular activities, and encourage growth in leadership qualities. Students who begin to work with us can take advantage of the early start to join mentorships, classes, and internships.
